Aliya Khalidi, a lecturer in philosophy at the Lebanese American university, has been taking her children on the weekly demonstrations that have taken place in Lebanon since the outbreak of a wave of Arab uprisings.
Unlike protesters in neighbouring countries, however, Ms Khalidi, 45, is not demonstrating against an authoritarian regime – her country is considered among the most democratic in the Arab world and the state has been traditionally weak.
