N.J. rep Chris Smith calls out Farrakhan on anti-Semitism

WASHINGTON (JTA) -- A New Jersey lawmaker, Rep. Chris Smith, singled out Louis Farrakhan as an example of how anti-Semitic rhetoric can have grave consequences.

"This month, Minister Farrakhan continued his anti-Semitic rant at nearby Howard University noting that he wanted to be heard 'unfiltered through the corporate-controlled, Jewish-controlled, Zionist-controlled media of the United States of America," Smith (R-N.J.) said April 28 in Washington while accepting the American Jewish Committee's Congressional Leadership Award. "Despite serious ongoing efforts to expose and combat anti-Semitism, this oldest and most nefarious form of hate continues to grow and morph and manifest in a myriad of ways."

Smith, who co-chairs the U.S. Helsinki Commission, part of a network of parliamentary human rights watchdogs, said his work in the 1980s linking Soviet treatment of its Jews to economic relations with the United States informed his efforts to combat human trafficking.

The lessons he learned then, he said, is why he introduced laws that apply foreign aid penalties to nations where human trafficking is prevalent.

"Predictably, such linkage has and is working well to mitigate and combat this modern-day manifestation of slavery," he said. "Linkage tells bullies we mean business."

Discussing Terrorism with Children: A Loss of Innocence

A local mother shares her thoughts on how to protect a child's innocence amid a world of turmoil.

With the death of Osama Bin Laden this week, it raised once again questions from my nine year old about terrorism and the world in which we live.

There has always been some form of terrorism in the world. However, today it seems that our children are exposed to more details, whether through the media or stories relayed at school. How much information we choose to share with our children surely depends on their level of comprehension of what is being told, as well as their age.

My father was in the British Army. During the late ‘70s, I became aware of the dangers that he and my family faced from the IRA. Each time we entered the base, our car would be checked for bombs and there were often bomb threats at the school I attended. I needed to be aware of what was going on as it had a direct effect on my life.

As a mother I have always tried to give out as little information about what is not going to affect my children on a daily basis. My oldest is aware of Sept. 11, 2011 and the repercussions.

Curious News Item: Second Generation Muslims More Orthodox than Parents

THE FOLLOWING is an exerpt from an article in the Telegraph about a recent study by the British think-tank, Policy Exchange:

A bleak picture of a generation of young British Muslims radicalised by anti-Western views and misplaced multicultural policies is shown in a survey published today.

The study found disturbing evidence of young Muslims adopting more fundamentalist beliefs on key social and political issues than their parents or grandparents.

Forty per cent of Muslims between the ages of 16 and 24 said they would prefer to live under sharia law in Britain, a legal system based on the teachings of the Koran. The figure among over-55s, in contrast, was only 17 per cent.

Denmark: Non-Muslim convicted for comments on Islam…in his own home

The International Free Press Society has the bad news for Lars Hedegaard and all freedom lovers, SHAME ON DENMARK! Lars Hedegaard found guilty of hate speech.

Lars Hedegaard was today found guilty of hate speech under Article 266b of the Danish penal code.  The background is a good 35 minutes long interview to the site snaphanen.dk which Hedegaard gave in December 2009.

Here Hedegaard said, among other things, that “girls in Muslim families are raped by their uncles, their cousins or their dad.”

Lars Hedegaard has previously expressed regret if his statements gave the impression that he would accuse all Muslims of abusing their children.

The day after the interview he stressed that his opinions were about Islam and not Muslims.

In January Hedegaard was acquitted of racist statements in the lower court of Frederiksberg. The court believed that his statements were insulting, but the case was dismissed because he did not know that the interview, which took place during a Christmas lunch, would be published.

Argentina state tv to air Islamic dawah to convert non-Muslims

Sharia creeping in Argentina, via PropagandaPressTV – Argentina to air Islamic program.

The Islamic Center of Argentina (CIPAL) will start airing a program on the country’s state television to introduce Islam to non-Muslim communities.

“This is a historical time for us because it is the first time that an Islamic entity in Argentina has its own program on state television,” CIPAL Press Manager Erica Sanchez Vitale told Press TV.

“This speaks of equal terms and opportunities for all religions in Argentina.”

The Quill and the Message will go on air every Sunday as of May 8, 2011, presenting reports, interviews, news and short courses and programs about the Holy Qur’an.

Killing the Bin Laden Within

A group of Navy SEALS may have stormed a Pakistani garrison town and taken off the top of Bin Laden's head, but he still lives on in the heads of the political establishment. The big Bin Laden has gone to feed the sharks, but it is the little Bin Laden who dictated that he receive a Muslim burial, forbade the release of the death photos and warned off the town of Virginia Beach from celebrating their hometown heroes.

It was never the big Bin Laden that the West was afraid of, but the little one. A small turbaned figure that sits in the heads of the establishment and drives its officials and legislators to wonder if they have somehow upset the Muslims this day.

The big Bin Laden could never have imprisoned an American in his own country for even thinking about protesting a mosque. Not with any amount of death or carnage. The big Bin Laden could never have gotten newspapers to refuse to print the Mohammed cartoons. He could kill us, but he could never make us censor ourselves. But the little one sitting in the worried heads of newspaper editors pulled it off. The big Bin Laden could have have normalized the groping of children in airports as a substitute for profiling Muslims, but the little Bin Laden always whispering about how dangerous it is to offend Muslims can convince us to do anything.

At the conclusion of 1984, Winston Smith wins a victory over himself by coming to love Big Brother. But there is no Big Brother. He is the mythical personification of the party. The collectivist side of every individual in Oceania. By giving in to it, Smith destroys the individual part of himself. He blissfully commits suicide because he can no longer believe in the virtue of resistance. Big Brother did not exist. It was that little Big Brother who haunted Smith.

The European Media Reacts to Death of Osama Bin Laden

European journalists have focused on whether the killing was permissible under international law; some are now calling for an international commission to investigate the American action.

May 5, 2011 - by Soeren Kern
Leading newspapers and magazines in Europe have provided saturation coverage of the death of Osama bin Laden. Although initial media reaction in Europe was overwhelmingly supportive of the American commando operation, media outlets in many countries quickly regained their composure and anti-Americanism has now returned as their default position.

European media, almost without exception, have focused particular attention on the news that bin Laden was not armed when he was killed by American operatives. Many Europeans have criticized what they describe as America’s “wild-west” concept of justice. Dozens of European newspapers have published lengthy philosophical essays by sundry intellectuals that examine the morality of bin Laden’s killing. Many argue that bin Laden should have been tried in a court of law.

In a reflection of the acute sense of moral superiority that is so common in contemporary Europe, secular analysts who are normally highly disdainful of Judeo-Christian moral codes have gone so far as to accuse the United States of violating the Fifth Commandment, without a hint of irony.
