12:00 AM, Apr. 17, 2011 For the second time in two weeks (March 18 and April 1) The Town Talk has published a highly emotional column by Mr. Charles Haynes, promoting Sharia Law and unfairly criticizing those who hold a view different from his as being hysterical without giving equal space to any of your readers to respond or defend themselves in a dispassionate, reasonable, and civil way.
In his April 1 column, Mr. Haynes states that Sharia Law has been interpreted in various ways through the centuries. That is just the point because in Islam, only a Qadis can interpret Sharia Law, and a federal, state, or local judge cannot. In the United States of America, a law must be interpreted uniformly and applied equally. Otherwise you have a rule of men and not a rule of law, and the kind of justice that a person receives will depend on who he is, what status he has in society, how much money he has, and whether he is a Muslim, non Muslim, or a former Muslim who has converted to another religion, such as Judaism for instance. If only a Muslim Qadis is allowed to interpret Sharia Law, that means that Sharia Law is a law unto itself, and that cannot be allowed in he United States of America.
