Relations with Israel will be a key issue for the Palestinian unity government, as the Fatah-led PA has been engaged in the peace process while Hamas refuses to recognize Israel's right to exist.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo on Tuesday ahead of the signing of a unity deal between his Fatah party and the Islamist Hamas movement.
Hamas, which rules the Gaza Strip, is set to sign a reconciliation agreement with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction on Wednesday.
The deal will end a bitter, and at times violent, feud between the two largest Palestinian parties.
It is intended to bring about the formation of an interim unity government, which will do away with the current situation where Hamas administers the Gaza Strip and the Fatah-dominated Palestinian Authority the West Bank.
