The Daily Briefing: Billionaire Peter Lewis floating marijuana ballot issue

Monday, May 2, 2011

The Columbus Dispatch

Billionaire Peter Lewis is floating a proposal for an Ohio ballot issue to legalize medical use of marijuana.
Lewis, a Clevelander who is head of Progressive Insurance, the nation's third-largest insurer, has given millions over the years to marijuana-related causes. Now he wants to bring the issue to his home state.

Through his attorney, Lewis put out a request for proposals to pass an Ohio issue that will "create a model for future campaigns in other states."

Following California in 1996, 14 other states have passed ballot issues legalizing marijuana for medically qualified patients, most through ballot issues.

No end to inhuman separation of Palestinian families

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's comment at a press conference on the killing of Osama bin Laden by American forces.

The below is a transcript of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh's comment at a press conference on the killing of Osama bin Laden by American forces. This is translated from a YouTube video; I'll see about getting a subtitled video out as well:
But irrespective of whether or not the news is true, we believe that this is merely a continuation of American policy, which is based on oppression and the shedding of Arab and Muslim blood. Regardless of the doctrinal differences within the Arab and Islamic world, we certainly denounce the murder or killing of a Muslim mujahid, an Arab man. We ask Allah to bestow His mercy on him, along with our prophet, friends, martyrs, and all the righteous.

Musharraf: Bin Laden mission violated Pakistan

Mugshot**FILE** Pervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan (Associated Press)

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Monday accused the U.S. of violating his country’s sovereignty by sending in special forces to kill Osama bin Laden.

“American troops coming across the border and taking action in one of our towns, that is Abbottabad, is not acceptable to the people of Pakistan. It is a violation of our sovereignty,” Mr. Musharraf told CNN-IBN, an Indian news channel.

He added that it would have been “far better if Pakistani Special Services Group had operated and conducted the mission. To that extent, the modality of handling it and executing the operation is not correct.”
Bin Laden was killed Sunday in a firefight with Navy SEALs in a million-dollar, fortified compound located in an affluent neighborhood in Abbottabad, about a two-hour drive from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad.

Three Convicted in Terror-Related Cases Granted U.S. Citizenship

The subversion continues. via CNSNews.com

Three people convicted of crimes as a result of a terrorism-related investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) were later naturalized as U.S. citizens by the Obama administration, according to federal auditors.

The March 2011 audit (released on April 21, 2011) by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), entitled Criminal Alien Statistics: Information on Incarcerations, Arrests and Costs, shows that three individuals were among “defendants where the investigation involved an identified link to international terrorism but they were charged with violating other statutes [not directly related to terrorism], including fraud, immigration, drugs, false statements, and general conspiracy charges,” referred by DOJ as Category II terrorism-related cases.

The three individuals in question can be found in a DOJ list of unsealed terrorism-related investigations conducted from Sept. 11, 2001 through Mar. 18, 2010. There are 403 defendants on that list of which, according to the GAO, at least 43 percent were aliens–both legal (26 percent) and illegal (17 percent)–at the time they were charged with crimes.

U.S. attorney in Ohio shills for Islam in op-ed

Yes, just two days ago we posted on a U.S. attorney, a Muslim, who told Muslims in Missouri the DOJ would challenge anti-sharia laws if passed. Now we have another U.S. attorney, essentially scolding Americans, defending Islam.

If U.S. attorney’s and the DOJ (Department of Jihad) would indict terror-linked Muslim groups like CAIR and ISNA rather than partnering with them, and writing op-eds, the U.S. would be much safer. via Ohio’s Muslim, Arab neighbors: Steven M. Dettelbach | cleveland.com.

Those of us in law enforcement know all too well that terrorists continue to target the United States. We have seen the dangerous consequences take hold in places like Fort Hood, Texas, and Times Square in New York, and even reach here in Ohio, where our office and the FBI prosecuted a homegrown terror cell plotting to kill Americans abroad. Preventing these kinds of attacks is our top priority.

Our enemies seek not only to kill our citizens and destroy our cities, they also want to attack the most fundamental American principle of all — our free, open and diverse society. We cannot and will not let them succeed.

Who are our enemies, sir? Are place like Dearborn, Michigan “free, open and diverse”? Is Molly Norris free – now in hiding from Muslims in the U.S.?

US warns of anti-American violence after bin Laden

Press Matthew Lee, Associated Press Mon May 2, 12:43 am ET
WASHINGTON – The State Department early Monday put U.S. embassies on alert and warned of the heightened possibility for anti-American violence after the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden by American forces in Pakistan.

In a worldwide travel alert released shortly after President Barack Obama late Sunday announced bin Laden's death in a U.S. military operation, the department said there was an "enhanced potential for anti-American violence given recent counterterrorism activity in Pakistan."

"Given the uncertainty and volatility of the current situation, U.S. citizens in areas where recent events could cause anti-American violence are strongly urged to limit their travel outside of their homes and hotels and avoid mass gatherings and demonstrations," it said.

The alert said U.S. embassy operations would continue "to the extent possible under the constraints of any evolving security situation." It noted that embassies and consulates may temporarily close or suspend public services, depending on conditions.

Osama Gets His Virgins

Osama bin Laden has gone to the great bordello in the sky that awaits every good jihadi.

Barack Obama explained that the jihadist mastermind was killed in a “targeted operation: at Abbottabad, Pakistan: “A small team of Americans carried out the operation. After a firefight, they killed Osama bin Laden and took custody of his body.”

Obama also said that the killing of bin Laden was the “most significant achievement to date” in America’s war against al-Qaeda.

It is undoubtedly significant. Osama bin Laden was wildly popular in the Islamic world. In the wake of the 9/11 attacks Osama t-shirts, hats, and even dolls and action figures sold briskly in many Muslim countries, belying the mainstream media myth that 9/11 was the action of a tiny minority of extremists that had twisted and hijacked Islam, and were duly despised by the vast majority of Muslims. Polls all over the Islamic world always showed a healthy amount of support for bin Laden and, above all, respect for him as a pious mujahid.
